Happy Summer and Happy 4th of July!
We will be closed on July 4th, have a safe and fun holiday!
Summer is here and it is vacation time for many! What are your summer vacation plans? Do you take sewing or handwork along on your vacation? I do believe that many of us at least take a project along on our vacations with the good intention of getting it done while vacationing. Now whether or not it even comes out of the luggage is another story!
In August we will be holding our first "Sewcation". What is a "sewcation" you may ask? Well, it is a mini vacation, time spent away from home primarily for the purpose of sewing. Much like a retreat. We are holding our Sewcation on Friday, August 9 and Saturday, August 10. It will be held in the Uptown Blanco Ballroom and we will take care of the food, the set up of tables, chairs, ironing boards and irons. You can bring a project that you're currently working on, or we will be providing a demo and lesson on how to make a "Broken Herringbone" quilt top. This is a great stash buster pattern or you can use 1-2 Jelly Rolls or Strip Packs. For more information, follow the link to our Workshops online site.
Also in August we are starting up our third Thursday "Sip and Sews". The Sip and Sew will be held 5-8 pm, bring your favorite beverage and sit and sew with others. You can bring a snack or dinner, or order from Uptown's Restaurant and have it delivered to you in the Studio. You can bring your own project, whether hand sewing or machine sewing. During these monthly evening events we will provide one short project, or how-to demonstration. Watching the demo will be purely optional. In August we will be demonstrating how to make the little "Charmed Gift Bag". More information will be posted under our online Workshops link. Registration is encouraged, but not required, just so we know how many to expect.
We will be participating in American Patchwork & Quilting's One Million Pillowcase Challenge again this year. Completed pillowcases will be going to St. Jude's Ranch for Children in New Braunfels. You are invited to make pillowcases at home and bring them in to the Studio anytime before the end of September, or join us on Sept. 19th to sew in the Studio. Since Sept. 19th is also a Sip and Sew day for the month, we will be demonstrating how to sew pillowcases using the "burrito" or "hot dog" method.
Block of the Months coming this Fall
We have two different Block of the Month options that will be arriving later this year.
"Sweet Sampler" by Lavenderlime for Moda will begin in January. Options will be to purchase the pattern which will be printed as a 12 month calendar, or purchased a kit which will come with all of the required fabric and pattern.
"Hello Spring" designed by 3 Wishes will be a 10 month Block of the Month and will have an assortment of blocks either pieced or appliqued.
Sign-ups for these BOM options will be announced as we get more information from our vendors.
