We are so excited for you to come free-motion longarm quilt with us!

Before renting the longarm, each new customer must complete a basic training and instructional workshop to learn the proper operation of our machine.  At the end of the workshop you will be able to perform basic free-motion longarm quilting.

Instruction consists of a 4 hour session with an Uptown Blanco Textile Studio instructor to learn how to:

  • Load the backing, batting and quilt top
  • Turn the longarm on and off
  • Determine appropriate tension and adjust as needed
  • Learn and practice 3-4 basic free motion designs

Fee: $45.00

Customer needs to provide:

  • Fabric for the top should be at least 45” – 60” in width and length (we recommend the fabric be a solid color or one with minimal design)
  • Batting that is at least 4” wider and 4” longer than fabric for the top
  • Backing that is at least 8” wider and 8” longer than fabric for the top
  • Thread of good quality (50 wt cotton or polyester is recommended) and at least 500 yards

After this workshop, it is recommended that a date be set within a week to rent the longarm.  This is so that the information you learned will not be forgotten, but it can be put into practice immediately.

Initial instruction time must be scheduled at least one week in advance and is limited to the instructor’s availability.

Rental Rate & Scheduling:

  • Minimum rental $45 for a half-day (up to 4 hours)
  • After 4 hours, pro-rated time is $10/hour
  • Rental time must be scheduled at least one week in advance. Quilt must be completed in one business day or removed from the frame at the end of the business day.
